First Village
Part of the Nahterh’n cluster and the larger village world that shapes Inlander identity.
ONE VOICE. THREE UNIVERSES. Robert Stanek - W. R. Stanek - R. Stanek
Inlander Home
Nahterh’n is home: three villages, wetland paths, family names, village law, and an ancient arbor that holds more memory than any one person can carry.
Before the Stone Lands and Adalayia enter the story, there is Nahterh’n.
Nahterh’n is the three-village cluster where Ray and Tall come from.
Part of the Nahterh’n cluster and the larger village world that shapes Inlander identity.
A place associated with warmth, food, familiar voices, hot wadings, and the temptation to turn aside from the harder path.
The emotional center of Ray and Tall’s early story, centered on family, village roles, the arbor, and the beginning of the quest.
Third Village is where Ray and Tall grow up, where village roles matter, where families expect children to become part of the life of the Inlands, and where the manhood quest begins.
Ray leaves Third Village on a path that should be difficult but understood. Tall remains behind at first, but his own path soon begins.
The ancient arbor at the heart of Third Village is not only a tree. It is a spiritual, social, and possibly magical center of village life.
The smoot speaks for the arbor. Through him, law, memory, warning, and hidden knowledge pass into village life.
The arbor may remember names, grief, lineage, and belonging.
The village is known through families, roles, memory, and the paths its children must take.
An Inlander boy whose visions pull him beyond the wetland world he knows.
Ray’s best friend, an artist, and a caller whose compassion becomes dangerous power.
Elder, guide, judge, lore-keeper, and voice of the arbor.
Keene, Ellie, Isaac, Ephramme, Waddymarre, Sharah, Dent, Marta, Rooter, and others belong to the living memory of Nahterh’n.
Nahterh’n is not only the place Ray and Tall leave. It is the measure of what leaving costs.
